My son loves pizza. Loves it. He would eat it for every meal if I let him. So when he turned 16 this year, instead of doing the usual photo shoot I try to do with them every year, I thought it’d be fun to do a twist on the cake smash session. In case you are unfamiliar with a cake smash session, it is usually done to celebrate a child’s first birthday. In theory, it’s the first time they see a cake full of frosting and it’s fun to see what their reaction to it will be. Usually they end up putting their hands in it and maybe even their entire face. The result is amusing frosting filled pictures.

I thought it would be funny to do a similar session for my 16 year old but instead of cake, give him pizza and document the results. His favorite pizza is from a local pizza place down the street from us called Luigi’s Pizza Fresca. If you live in Burlington, NJ, you know the place and now that I mentioned it, you want it for dinner. It’s THAT good.

My son is also a huge fan of Harry Potter, so I got him a special shirt just for this shoot. It says- “My Patronus is Pizza” and was the perfect outfit. Since one year olds usual do this wearing either nothing but a diaper or just a cute onesie, I asked him to go barefoot and just wear shorts. He was so patient with me and I’m so happy he agreed to do this for me since we got some amazing shots!! I don’t usually do portrait studio type pictures, but these look so good I might consider doing more like this. If you are interested in a food type shoot for your kid, let me know! We can get creative together.

Here are my favorites from the shoot. Mangia!
